Prof. Dr, Max Bruckner, Four Plates from the Book “Vielecke und Vielflache”, (1900)

Regular convex polyhedra, frequently referenced as “Platonic” solids, are featured prominently in the philosophy of Plato, who spoke about them, rather intuitively, in association to the four classical elements (earth, wind, fire, water… plus ether). However, it was Euclid who actually provided a mathematical description of each solid and found the ratio of the diameter of the circumscribed sphere to the length of the edge and argued that there are no further convex polyhedra than those 5: tetrahedron, hexahedron (also known as the cube), octahedron, dodecahedron and icosahedron.

BOOM! Fractal.

This is Electrical Treeing. Or a Lichtenberg Figure.

If you have an insulating material, it doesn’t conduct very well. But, you can force it to with absurd amounts of electrical fields. Then in the material, changes and defects cause huge localised electric fields, creating a plasma in the insulator and damaging it. Seriously electricity is terrifying.

Oh, you know what else is a good insulator? Skin. After lightning strikes people have developed these patterns on their skin as the electric field bursts capillaries. Making them the coolest scars in history.

Is this related to dendritic growth in old lithium batteries?

As far as I can determine, no, it’s a pretty different idea. On batteries it’s a random deposition of lithium on a surface. A friend of mine grows nanorods of zinc oxide and I know if he’s not careful then can become dendrites

*the more you know star woosh* I think. This is pretty heavy electrochemistry, which is fairly far out of my wheelhouse.

Farewell Year Of Luigi
さよならルイージの年

There’ll be a Nintendo Direct after few hours… Just at the day of the 1st anniversary of the Year Of Luigi. I’m terribly afraid that Mr. Iwata will announce it is the end, of the year of Luigi.

This is a remake of my “A Luigi A Day" drawing, and I made a list to show which game you can see these different Luigis.

Now I’m going to cross my fingers and hope for some good news!
